Yuma leaders meet with UP on new rail line

The Yuma Metropolitan Planning Organization recently met with farm interests, government agencies, and the Union Pacific Railroad to discuss laying a new rail line from Arizona to Punta Colonet in Baja California.
Union Pacific spokesman Mark Davis said the railroad is among a group of companies considering the development of a “super port” at Punta Colonet. About 200 new miles of rail in Mexico, and 20 or 30 new miles in the United States, would create a connection from the Pacific Rim to central and eastern United States markets that would shave ocean miles off international trade routes.
