METRO [Valley Metro Rail], in co-operation with the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) is conducting a study to analyze potential high capacity transit improvementsin the cities of Tempe and Chandler

…The Tempe South study is funded by the Proposition 400 half-cent transportation sales tax extension approved by Maricopa County voters in 2004, and is contained in the adopted Regional Transportation Plan as a component of the 57-mile high capacity transit / light rail network to be implemented by 2026…

Tier I selection is  nearly complete, and recommended for study in Tier II are:

  • Commuter Rail in the UPRR Corridor
  • Bus Rapid Transit in the UPRRCorridor
  • BRT on Mill Avenue
  • Modern Streetcar on Mill Avenue
  • LRT [hybrid LRT/Modern Streetcar] or Streetcar on Rural Road
  • BRT on Rural Road

Hear the status of the Tempe South study at one of two public meetings:

  • 10 June at the Tempe Public Library
  • 11 June at Corona del Sol High School
