Let’s Get Arizona On Track To The Future!

The Arizona Rail Passenger Association is a statewide membership organization working for the expansion and improvement of rail passenger service within the state of Arizona, and between Arizona and other States. Please join us as we build support for a modern transportation system in the Southwest!
Who Are We?
The Arizona Rail Passenger Association is a non-profit volunteer organization striving to improve and expand all forms of rail passenger service in Arizona and the Southwest. We do this through members like you… persons who believe in rail passenger service as part of a balanced transportation system. Persons who help us work with governments, civic leaders, corporations, and other citizen groups.
Our predecessor organization, the Rail Passenger Association of the Southwest, was founded in 1978; and A.R.P.A. was incorporated in 1984.
We…
- Proposed a light rail system for Phoenix in 1984. Today’s METRO line, opened in December 2008, very nearly follows our proposal.
- Were the first to alert the media about the pending withdrawal of Phoenix Amtrak service.
- Have been in the forefront of efforts to re-establish intercity rail service to Phoenix, Tempe, and Coolidge.
- Were the first to suggest the use of Tempe-Phoenix rail shuttles in case of Salt River flooding, long before the 1980 rains came.
- Were the first to recognize the potential of revived rail service to the Grand Canyon.
- Were the first to propose the concept of a practical Regional Rail system using Arizona’s existing railroad rights-of-way.
