Mission and Goals

Mission:

To advocate and promote modern rail passenger service within Arizona and between Arizona and other states.

Goals:

  • Establishment of regional inter-city and commuter/light rail services
  • Improvements in the national inter-city rail passenger system
  • Operation of tourist/excursion trains
  • Enhancement of essential passenger services support elements:
    • Rail infrastructure and rights-of-way
    • Grade crossing protection/elimination and other safety-related functions
    • Intermodal passenger facilities
    • Economic health of freight railroads

Strategies:

  • Government Action
    • Drafting legislation
    • Testifying before legislative committees
    • Supporting enactment of relevant legislation
    • Political networking
  • Passenger Service Oversight
    • Monitoring quality, cost-effectiveness, marketing, and safety of services
    • Liaison with operating and regulatory agencies
  • Public Advocacy and Education
    • Promotion of existing rail passenger services
    • Maintaining contact with the news media
    • Communicating externally by public appearances, video presentations, the Internet, and direct mail
    • Communicating with ARPA membership
    • Liaison with other rail advocacy groups
