  • Sunset Limited (#1/#2)
Southern Pacific first operated the Sunset Limited in December 1894 as a seasonal train. Since the late 1960′s, it has operated three times a week; it is the only Amtrak train to never have been daily. On April 4, 1993, Amtrak started the Miami-Los Angeles extension, discontinuing service to Phoenix in 1995 and truncating the train to Sanford in 1996, and to Orlando in 1997. Since Hurricane Katrina in 2005, the train has been cut back to New Orleans even though the CSX mainline through western Florida is operational.

  • Texas Eagle (#21/#22)
